The RXAus (Australian Rally Cross) round at Marulan wasn’t initially on our list of events to cover this year. However the opportunity to cover something new was too good to pass up.
Over the last few years we’ve covered a wide variety of motorsport rally events all around Australia. Everything from club level hill climbs through to Formula 1. Rally Cross, however, has always been one of those events that we’ve not had the chance to cover. Until the past weekend.
Photographically, Rally Cross, combines the best parts of circuit racing and rally. The opportunity to try different things over several laps, just like circuit racing. While dirt, jumps and sideways action allows us to create really dynamic photos, just like rallying.
Unfortunately the track at Marulan is quite limited in photographic opportunities. Being a driver training facility it wasn’t built with photographers or large crowds of spectators in mind. However the circuit has a lot of potential, it would be good to see what happens with the facility in the future.
That said we were able to capture quite a few different angles a create variety of shots from the one day of the event.
We also had the opportunity to capture some video and produce a short video for Auto Action‘s social media from the event.
Here’s a small collection of some of Rhys Vandersyde’s favourite RXAus photos from Marulan.
