We wrapped up our big three-week stint in New Zealand with a quick trip down to the South Island for the final Australian GT round of the year, the Highlands 501.
Not only was it our first time working at the Highlands circuit, in Cromwell, just outside of Queenstown. It was also the first time that Rhys had ever made the trip to the South Island of New Zealand.
The whole experience was simply amazing. From flying in over the snow-capped mountains, to the Highlands circuit with such stunning backdrop to include in our customers photos. It was a genuinely a surreal experience that left us wondering if we’d done the place proper justice. It’s not often we leave a circuit having said that.
Even though it was amazing experience for us, our customers had a rough time during the race there. Unfortunately for Liam Talbot and the Walkinshaw GT3 crew they were out without even completing a lap of the race after an incident on the opening lap. While Fraser Ross and the McElrea Racing crew ran into issues with their McLaren 650S GT3 mid-way through the race.
That said one of our customers had a fantastic result with Tony D’Alberto and Max Twigg taking out the win in what turned out to be quite a dramatic race.
We weren’t just of photography duties at Highlands. Rhys was also asked to supply Auto Action with race reports for the weekend for both their website and the magazine. It made for a busy couple of days, not only following the Australian GT action, but also the Radical Australia Cup, which had also made the trip.
