Just when we thought we couldn’t fit anymore work into October, we flew over to New Zealand to capture the penultimate round of the Australian GT Endurance Championship at Hampton Downs.
Straight after the Supercars round at the Gold Coast, it was time to head to the airport to fly over to New Zealand for three back to back race meetings, the first of those being Australian GT’s Hampton Downs 500.
We’re not sure how it was possible, but we’ve been on a bit of a streak with wet race meetings recently. In fact the last completely dry event we’ve had to this point was the Supercars round at Sydney Motorsport Park back in August. Hampton Downs was no different, the rain absolutely poured down throughout the event, but especially on Saturday during practice and qualifying.
However, having plenty of recent practice in wet weather motorsport photography meant that we hit the ground running at Hampton Downs and created plenty of fantastic images for our customers throughout the event. Rain and wet tracks can often be a good thing, as it offers opportunities to capture some really unique images. If the conditions are right, reflections and spray can be used to create some really stunning images. Very different from anything that can be achieved on a dry circuit, as you’ll see from the photo gallery below.
The Hampton Downs 500 also gave us a unique opportunity to really focus on just one category over the weekend. Usually we’ll have customers across several support categories throughout a race meeting, but being in New Zealand with local support categories, our customers in the Australian GT received our full attention, which really helped in making sure we could get them our photos in a timely fashion.
That said, it wasn’t just photos we were producing at Hampton Downs, we were also left in charge of writing up the daily reports for Auto Action’s website over the course of the weekend, including – https://autoaction.com.au/2017/10/29/peter-hackett-dominic-storey-win-hampton-downs-500. Making sure we had a good amount of work to do.
Here’s a collection of some of our favourite photos from Australian GT’s Hampton Downs 500. We’ve also share some of our customers galleries on our Facebook Page, if you’d like to check those out. Also make sure you follow us on our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for more photos from upcoming events.
