Photo Gallery: Supercars Sandown 500 2019
Some might say that luck is a matter of when preparation meets opportunity, but there was a lot of luck involved at the penultimate round of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship for 2019, the Sandown 500.
Not only for myself to capture such a dramatic sequence of images, but also for everyone else involved. Big crashes often have big consequences, especially when car leaves the circuit. So it was great to see John Iafolla walk away from this particularly big crash during the final Toyota 86 Racing Series race at Sandown.
Sandown is one of those tracks we’ve seen a lot of big crashes over the years. Supercars annual highlights reels almost always feature a big crash from Sandown, particularly through the Dandenong Road section. It’s something as a photographer that when you go to shoot in that section of the circuit you know you need to be prepared for and keep your toes and react to whatever presents itself. And that’s exactly what I did when this particular crash played out in front of me.
Now that the images have gone through their publication cycle with Auto Action etc… here’s the sequence of photos I captured during John’s spectacular roll over:
That all said. The roll over wasn’t the only thing that happened at Sandown. It was also retro round for the Supercars teams and some of the teams did an exceptional job with their retro liveries this year.
Here’s a few of my other favourite photos from Sandown from the Supercars action, as well as a couple of other photos from the some of the other categories who ran at Sandown over the weekend. As always if you are looking for photos from this event or any future events, be sure to get in touch.
