The Best Ways to Engage With Your Fans on Social Media

by | Jan 27, 2019

Having followers on social media is all well and good, but unless you’re engaging with them and making them feel valued, they won’t stick around for long.

For many, one of the big pulls of social media is the ability to connect with celebrities and people that they admire. But, if connecting with them stops at seeing their posts, it doesn’t have the same effect.

We know how much you value your fans. They’re the backbone of your career and help you to gain access to opportunities you normally wouldn’t have. So now, it’s time to give something back to them and reward them for supporting you. Here are our top tips to do just that.

Use Questions in Your Answers

When someone interacts with your post, it’s nice to acknowledge them. But, a simple “Thank You” can feel a little impersonal. Instead, try responding to their comment with a question. This way, you’re able to keep the conversation going, encouraging more engagement.

So, next time someone says they hope you win this Saturday, shoot them a “Thanks! Will you be watching it live?”. Simple, yet incredibly effective.

Use Emojis

Emojis are not just for the younger generation anymore. Instead, they can be used by anyone wanting to portray a more relatable online persona. They have become an ingrained aspect of online communication, and no longer hold the same kind of child-like reputation they once did. Now, they can be used as a way to portray your ideas in a quicker and more accessible way.

Images and GIFs

Images in your main posts are incredibly important, we already know that. But, just because you’re posting a reply, it doesn’t mean you can’t utilize them there as well. And, now that both Twitter and Facebook have a built-in GIF keyboard, it’s easier than ever to find the perfect one for your mood.

Save Time With Pre-Written Replies
Write up a few responses that you can use in most circumstances to help save time, and save them in the notes section on your phone. But, just because you’re creating a list of generic replies, doesn’t mean you can make them too generic. “Nice!”, “Thanks!”, and “Love it!” are not acceptable. Instead, use this trick to write replies like “Thanks for the nice comments! Are you a big F1 fan?” or, “It’s always so nice to hear things like this from fans! You’ve made my day!”.

Schedule Engagement Time in Your Daily Schedule

We know how busy life can get, but scheduling a time slot each day to engage with your fans can pay off in huge ways. If you try and respond to each comment as soon as it happens, you’ll never be off your phone and will constantly be playing catch up. But, with a dedicated time slot, you can respond more efficiently without it cutting too much into everything else you need to get through each day.

Just remember that your social media following is made up of a collection of individuals, all of whom want to feel a connection with you. They’ve taken the time to engage with and comment on your posts, so you can definitely spare some time to respond with something personal and meaningful. Who knows, you might build some really interesting relationships this way!
