The Clipsal 500 is always a big event to kick off the Virgin Australia Supercars season. Four days in the heat of Adelaide’s summer always makes the event a challenge, not just for drivers but the media as well.

This year’s Clipsal 500 was an especially busy event for us working our customers across Australian GT, Dunlop Super2 Series and Stadium Super Trucks field, as well as providing photographic coverage for the event organisers.

Photographing a motorsport event for the event organisers is different to just covering the on track action for magazines and teams. While the on track action is still about capturing the story of the race meeting, there is also a focus on a lot of the behind the scenes aspects of the event, particularly showcasing the emotion of the crowd.

Combine all of that with the usual challenges of photographing at a street circuit and make for an interesting, busy, yet rewarding event. A great way to officially kick off the 2017 Virgin Australia Supercars season. You can check out a bunch of our work (as well as a few other photographers) over on the Clipsal 500 website and facebook page.

Now here’s a few of Rhys Vandersyde’s favourite photo’s of the Supercars action during the Clipsal 500 on the streets of Adelaide. We’ve also posted a small gallery from the support categories on our facebook page. Also keep an eye on the leading motorsport publications for more images over the next few weeks.
